US DOA, NIH, DOE, NASA TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER |
- The Department of Agriculture oversees agricultural issues for the country. Interestingly, they maintain one of the best sites for information on technology transfer on the Internet, not only for information for DoA and federal technology transfer (such as CRADAs), but also for technology transfer in general.
- The National Institutes of Health are the nation's centers for public research into all of the major health problems of the modern era, with an annual budget over $10 billion. Inventions resulting from these research activities are available for licensing through their Office of Technology Transfer.
- The Department of Energy oversees public research into energy science and technology. Inventions resulting from these research activities are available for licensing through their Technology Transfer office.
- NASA oversees the nation's aerospace efforts. Inventions resulting from these activities are available for licensing through their Technology Transfer office.

US INTERNATIONAL TRADE COMMISSION (ITC) |
The International Trade Commissionis an independent government agency that investigates trade complaints, including complaints from US companies about the importing of patented products. The ITC's Trade Remedy Assistance Office provides information on how companies can make use of the ITC's investigative and complaint services. US Customs Service |
The U.S. Customs Service monitors the import and export of goods across the nation's border, and is an agency of the Treasury Department. Imported products that violate U.S. patents can be seized by the Custom Service.

US FEDERAL COURTS |
The Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (CAFC) is a special court that hears appeals of patents lawsuits thar arise out of the Patent Office or from the US District Courts. The CAFC's Web site allows you to find out about current and recent cases, and their policies, with biographies on the CAFC judges. The CAFC and the Law School at Emory University jointly sponsor a searchable database of CAFC decisions since August 1995.

US FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION / JUSTICE DEPARTMENT |
- Antitrust policy is administered by two agencies, the Justice Department and the FTC. Justice Department antitrust guidelines are available in a report, "Antitrust guidelines for the licensing of intellectual property".
- The Federal Trade Commission oversees the trade practices of the American marketplace. Part of the FTC staff focuses on two aspects affecting patents - the antitrust aspects of patents, and investigating and prosecuting the criminal invention promotion marketing companies.
